The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must rapidly identify and develop technologies to counter emerging threats. To do this, DHS has developed an innovation framework to engage early-stage startups. Through targeted, nondilutive funding and providing opportunities for operational testing and market access, DHS is working to incentivize product developers to open the aperture of their commercial development road maps to include homeland security solutions.
DHS’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) launched the Innovation Other Transaction Solicitation (OTS) HSHQDC-16-R-B0005 in December last year. The SVIP has announced two new topic calls under the Innovation OTS focused on the U.S. Customs & Border Protection’s (CBP) mission to safeguard America’s borders while enhancing the nation’s global economic competitiveness. At this Industry Day, DHS will present opportunities—initially discussed at the Homeland Security Day event in April—for technology startups and investors to develop or implement existing cutting-edge technologies to support CBP’s mission in the areas of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Capabilities and Enhancing CBP Airport Passenger Processing.
